You know, the U.S. and Canada have a good, growing and constantly improving league - probably on par with the Scottish league or the lower teams of the EPL. Why not pick an MLS team close to you? The Philadelphia Union is a new team and has a very blue-collar work ethic. The Columbus Crew also has a blue collar "mystique".
