Is it fair to break up with a decent guy?

I've been in a relationship with this guy for almost 2 yeas now. In the beginning we would hang out a lot and he'll be all sweet, my friends think he is perfect; he is on his way to medical school, very independent and ambitious. However, we never get to see each other a lot and when we do is very seldom during the week but almost never in the weekends and I feel as he is very close with his feelings and refuses to share small details of every day things and I know he is like that, and probably would never change. I guess my heart has changed as I realize despite him being perfect I don't have fun with him anymore but I still care about him as a good friend. I have also came to realize that there may be other guys out there that are more willing to spend time with me and be more open. So, should I break up with the guy or just work it out with him and see is there is something we can do to fix things up. I really feel guilty breaking up with him because he is a really nice guy.. any advice out there? It would be highly appreciated
